Wrinkle Release: 3 Steps To Looking Younger With Age

As I was picking out my outfit to teach my class at a local university, I noticed my shirt was extra wrinkled.  Normally a few wrinkles wouldn't bother me but this was a "did you sleep in that" wrinkled.

Thankfully my dryer has a de-wrinkle setting and within 15 minutes my shirt was smooth and ready to wear.

Wouldn't it be nice as we age and a few wrinkles turns into a few more, if we had a de-wrinkler we could use?

Well, we may.

Here's How To Keep Your Skin Looking and Feeling Good.

1.  Drink Plenty of Water - Water not only keeps you hydrated and feeling refreshed, it also improves your skin's elasticity.  Research has shown those who drink significant amounts of water each day (64-100oz daily) are less likely to suffer from scars, have less wrinkles and will have decreased signs of aging as compared to those drinking little amounts of water.

2. Catch Your Zzzz's - Our muscles aren't the only thing to repair themselves at night.  Studies have shown poor sleepers (less than 7-9 hours per sleep) have increased signs of premature skin aging and decreased ability for the skin to repair itself from external stressors such as too much sunlight or wind damage.

3.  Eat (or Supplement) the right foods.  - As always a healthy diet is key in most areas.  There are certainly foods and/or supplements to focus on when looking at increasing skin health and decreasing the aging process.

  • Collagen - The most prominent protein in the body, collagen plays a major role in providing structure to bones, cartilage, teeth and ligaments as well as providing elasticity to skin.  Collagen unfortunately begins to decrease in the body around age 30 but can be easily replaced with foods such as bone broth and supplements (look for supplements with Type 1 & 3 collagen).
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids - Integral in helping keep your skin thick, supple and moisturized.  An Omega 3 deficiency is known to cause inflammation which can lead to dry skin, psoriasis and acne.  Omega 3's are best consumed in fatty fish such as salmon or consumed via a high quality fish oil supplement.

One of the guarantees in life is we will get older.  We have no control of that.  However, our lifestyle choices will play a role in how much we age during that process.  Choose wisely now, age gracefully later.
